Zelenskyy confirms strike on plant in Russia's Rostov Oblast producing missile components – video

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Ukrainian forces struck a Russian plant in Rostov Oblast where components for missiles and other weapons are produced. Ukraine's defence forces attacked the facility on the night of 25-26 September.

Details: Zelenskyy described the strike on the plant in Azov as one of "our warriors' long-range responses" to Russian attacks on civilians.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "Our long-range capabilities were also effective in Rostov Oblast: a plant supplying the occupiers with components for missiles and artillery, as well as a Pantsir-S2 system, was struck."

More details: Ukraine's military struck the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in the Russian city of Azov, SSU reported. The strike was carried out by personnel from the SSU's Special Group Alpha jointly with the Ukrainian Navy.

The plant was attacked using Ukrainian Neptune cruise missiles as well as Ruta, Palianytsia and Bars jet-powered drone missiles.

Quote from SSU: "Early reports indicate that optical and foundry production facilities, an assembly section, an electroplating workshop and a printed circuit board production facility have been damaged."

More details: Earlier, analysts from a Ukrainian Exilenova+ OSINT project reported that explosions were recorded overnight in Azov, Rostov Oblast, and that the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant, which works for Russia's defence industry, had likely been targeted.

NASA's FIRMS satellite fire-monitoring system recorded a fire near the plant. Exilenova+ analysts also released footage showing the moment the facility in Azov was attacked.

The Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant is part of the Tactical Missiles Corporation. It manufactures electronic systems for high-precision artillery, missile and anti-tank weapons, radar homing heads for tactical guided missiles, airborne thermal imaging and heat-detection equipment,as well as optical-mechanical and optoelectronic products, according to Defence Intelligence of Ukraine's War&Sanctions database.

The plant in Rostov Oblast is subject to sanctions imposed by the United States, Canada, Switzerland, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Ukraine.

Background: On 25 September, Ukraine's defence forces struck three facilities in Russia's Ulyanovsk, Tula and Voronezh oblasts.
