Marat Mambetov, a MiG-29 fighter pilot who was killed in action on 1 October aged 25, has been posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

Quote from the decree: "For personal courage and heroism displayed in the defence of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and selfless service to the Ukrainian people, I hereby decree that Major Marat Redvanovych Mambetov shall be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star posthumously."
Background:
- Mambetov was a flight commander in the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, also known as the Ghost of Kyiv.
- Flying a MiG-29 fighter jet, he carried out missile and bomb strikes on Russian troops on one of the fronts. His aircraft was hit by a Russian missile during a combat mission. He ejected but did not survive.
