Following the release of an independent investigation that determined St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her’s behavior was inappropriate and offensive but did not cross the line into sexual harassment, Police Chief Axel Henry has brought a suit against Her formally alleging sexual harassment on her part. Her has also dropped the police department from her security detail and replaced them with county sheriffs. Basically, it’s going great.

Former state Sen. Justin Eichorn was sentenced to 16 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release, a punishment landing between the prosecution’s ask for five years in prison and lifetime supervised release and the defense’s request for time served plus five years of supervised release. The Republican lawmaker had pleaded guilty to one count of attempted possession of child pornography stemming from his arrest in a sting operation, which led to his resignation last year.

Plymouth joined the growing list of Minnesota cities ending their use of the controversial automated license plate reader cameras manufactured by Flock in a near unanimous vote by the city council. Other cities that have ended their contracts include Brooklyn Park, Columbia Heights, Crystal, Duluth, Fridley, North Branch, and St. Paul.

Ripples continue to spread from Minneapolis Public Schools’ presentation of three different proposals that would involve closing up to 16 schools in the district. While the goal of providing “more consistent access to arts and physical education specialists, academic interventions and other support” is worthy, it’s hard not to feel for students who in the last seven years have already been through “a controversial district redesign, COVID-19, unrest after George Floyd’s murder, a teachers strike and the immigration enforcement surge.”

The ongoing war in the Middle East between the U.S. and Iran has been pushing gas prices all over the place, but shops that have been eating the increased costs of oil when it comes to oil changes are running out of margin. 

“If nothing changes, and if raw material prices stay high, there’s probably another wave of raw material prices coming,” said lubrication specialist Lake Speed Jr. “If supply stays limited and people can’t get the raw materials, then basic economics kicks in and people are going to pay more to get them, it’s a mess.”

And finally in your Minnesota news roundup: No one was injured, but a Subaru Forester took a header into an open hole on University Ave., bringing traffic to a standstill until a rotator tow truck lifted it out. We have managed to secure some footage of the incident.
