Minneapolis Public Schools unveiled three proposals to address declining enrollment at a school board meeting on Tuesday night. More than half the schools in the district are at less than 70% capacity, and the long and short of it is that more than a dozen and as many as 16 schools could close. 

What if the Minneapolis City Council threw a meeting to address the Minneapolis Police Department’s $21 million of budget overrun and no one from the MPD came? Seems like what we have here in this KSTP-TV report is a failure to communicate.

“Is anyone here from the Minneapolis Police Department or the Office of Community Safety to answer questions today?” Minneapolis City Council Member and Committee Chair Aisha Chughtai said, moving to the anticipated agenda item. The roughly 20 seconds of silence that followed, without a presenter appearing, surprised news crews in the room and at least Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw, as the presentation was set to begin.

Home prices continue to rise despite inventory in Minnesota hitting a seven-year high in August. Listings rose 7.1% while pending sales declined for the first time in five months. Overall, though, there’s a housing shortage and consumer confidence is soft. I’m going to go ahead and guess no one can really tell you where this is going, especially with an interest rate hike coming in from the Fed yesterday.

FBI Director Kash Patel faced questions in a Senate hearing Tuesday, including from Sen. Amy Klobuchar, whose line of questioning concerned investigations into the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, reports WCCO-TV. 

“We will fully support all those investigations, it doesn’t matter if it’s a state investigation, federal investigation, bureau investigation, DHS investigation,” Patel said.

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice withheld evidence and refused to cooperate in the investigations for nearly six months.

Add Bemidji to the list of places in Minnesota enacting a moratorium on data centers. The Bemidji Planning Board voted 6-1 to prohibit development on data centers exceeding 10,000 square feet within Bemidji’s city limits for one year.

The majority of the state remains in drought, but we’ve got a chance for some serious rain statewide on Friday — possibly as much as one to five inches. Sven Sundgaard predicts “monsoonal moisture,” which is also the name of that high-end lotion you’ve been seeing on TikTok.

And finally in your news roundup: Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has yet again topped the list of best mega airports according to JD Power. That makes three years in a row, and honestly, that tracks, once you learn to park in Green parking. Also important to note that Chicago’s O’Hare ranked last among mega airports, which also tracks.
