Russian Mi-8 helicopter violates Polish airspace

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported on 23 September that a Russian Mi-8 helicopter had violated Polish airspace.

Details: The Polish military said the violation occurred at 11:08 north of the town of Braniewo. "The helicopter was flying from Kaliningrad Oblast. It entered Polish airspace to a maximum depth of approximately 300 m and remained there for 42 seconds," the statement said.

The helicopter's flight was tracked by radar systems operated by the Polish Armed Forces. Fighter jets were scrambled, while ground forces and assets were placed on standby.

"The nature of the incident indicates that Russia is once again testing the readiness of our air defence," the command added.

Polish air defence crews maintain round-the-clock surveillance and remain on constant standby to ensure the security of Polish airspace.
