Russian attack on Odesa Oblast sets warehouses on fire – photos

A Russian attack has sparked a large fire at warehouses in Odesa Oblast. No casualties have been reported.

Details: "Russia has struck civilian infrastructure in Odesa Oblast. The enemy attack caused a large fire at warehouse facilities. There were no casualties," Kiper wrote on Telegram.

Due to heavy smoke, experts measured the quality of the ambient air. The results showed that the levels of chemicals and combustion products did not exceed permissible limits.

Kiper said there was no threat to the public.

The day before, Kiper reported that warehouse facilities belonging to a chain of food supermarkets had caught fire in Odesa Oblast following Russian strikes. No casualties were reported, and the fire was extinguished.

Background:

• Russian forces have destroyed over 400,000 sq m of warehouse space belonging to Ukrainian businesses, the equivalent of 56 football pitches.
• Following large-scale Russian strikes on logistics centres, retailers' logistics costs have increased by 1.5-2 times. Companies are restructuring their logistics operations and diversifying their warehouses.
• Ruslan Shostak, founder and co-owner of the Varus supermarket chain, believes that at the current intensity of Russian attacks, it could take decades to destroy 90% of Ukraine's warehouses – and only if they are not rebuilt.
• In August, the Ministry for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine appealed to the International Maritime Organisation over a sharp deterioration in security and freedom of navigation in the Black Sea: Russia attacked 52 civilian vessels in July and the first half of August.
