Russian attack damages Kyiv maternity hospital as baby boy is born in shelter

A maternity hospital in Kyiv sustained damage during a Russian attack on the night of 23-24 September. Patients and medical staff were in a shelter at the time of the strike and none of them were injured.

Details: Mostepan said a baby boy was born in the medical facility's shelter during the attack.

Quote: "At 02:05, in the midst of the attack, a baby boy was born at a Kyiv maternity hospital. Even on such a terrible night, life goes on. Our medical staff remain by their patients' sides whatever the circumstances and do everything they can to ensure that care is provided in a timely manner."

More details: The attack partly blew out windows and doors from the ground to the fourth floor of the medical facility on the side facing the car park. Windows in the laundry and boiler room were also damaged.

Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that one person had been killed in a car park near the facility. A nearby medical centre was also damaged.

Despite the damage, the maternity hospital continues to operate and provide medical care.

Background:

• On the night of 23-24 September, Russia carried out another large-scale attack on Ukraine, using almost 300 drones of various types as well as ballistic and anti-ship missiles.
• Eight people were injured in Kyiv in the attack. At least two were taken to hospital in a serious condition and two people were killed. Most of the injured were diagnosed with multiple injuries, blast injuries and shrapnel wounds.
• In the Podilskyi district, a fire broke out involving four cars in a car park following the strike near the maternity hospital. The fire was extinguished and a body was found.
• It was also reported that debris had fallen at two more locations in the Dniprovskyi district, both on the grounds of private properties, one of which was damaged. People may be trapped under the rubble of the building. Russian forces also partially destroyed warehouse buildings in the Solomianskyi district. The buildings caught fire following the strike, with the flames spreading to the basement areas. The fire has now been extinguished.
