During the 29 September US Senate judiciary committee hearing, the Republican senator Eric Schmitt accused Jack Smith, the former special counsel, of attending an Atlanta Hawks basketball game in Atlanta. Schmitt insinuated that Smith was in the area when Fani Willis, the Fulton county district attorney, revealed she'd had a relationship with fellow prosecutor Nathan Wade.
