2 DEAD, DOZENS INJURED AFTER PLANE COLLIDES WITH FIRE TRUCK AT LaGUARDIA
Two pilots were killed and at least 41 people were injured after a passenger jet struck a Port Authority firefighting vehicle at LaGuardia Airport late last night, according to officials.
The aircraft, a Jazz Aviation flight operated on behalf of Air Canada, was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members. Dozens were taken to hospitals, with some reported seriously injured.
The fire truck was responding to a separate emergency involving a reported odor on a United Airlines flight when the collision occurred around 11:40 p.m.
Air traffic control audio captured the immediate aftermath, with one controller saying the incident “wasn’t good to watch,” while another admitted, “I messed up.”
LaGuardia remains closed and is not expected to reopen until at least 2 p.m. as authorities investigate. The closure has already caused widespread travel disruptions, including a ground stop at Newark and cascading delays across the region.
